Design books occupy more of my shelves than is entirely reasonable. Elsewhere, I like small music venues, thoughtful food and walking without checking the route. Berlin suits my appetite for contrast: spare architecture one moment, wonderfully elaborate stories the next.

I do not feel the need to fill every silence. Sometimes a piece of music deserves the room, and sometimes a passing observation becomes the best conversation of the evening. I appreciate company that knows the difference and enjoys both.
